Creating Performance-based E-learning

What is E–learning?

E–learning is learning using electronic technologies to access the curriculum thus not using the traditional ways of learning. It is a simple process and is used on a large scale in this era of learning. Anyone can learn and teach anything from any part of the globe. E–learning has made learning easier as people find it easy to access the technology.

Benefits of e–learning:

  • Resources can be available anywhere, any time
  • No classroom space needed
  • Ability to reach endless students
  • Lower costs
  • Flexibility to learn

Generally there are two categories of e – learning – providing information or showing something to do. In the first category more stress is given in providing information to the learners and in the second category more stress is given on performing things along with providing information. It is called as performance based e – learning.

Performance based e – learning

Performance based e – learning is skill oriented. The main focus in performance based e-learning is to upgrade skills and to tap on the behavior and to change them. Different courses have different objectives. It is difficult to have all the courses delivered in one way of teaching method.

The main goal of performance based e – learning is that what is to be done if they want to achieve any specific goal. There are various parameters linked while creating a performance based e-learning. The first and fore most is to recognize the requirements and needs for the performance learning and then accordingly build your training and activities. In performance learning, the effectiveness of the course in real situation is very important than just providing the information or creating the content pages.

Courses make difference when the content is provided innovatively & effectively. If you aim at performance based learning then you need to focus on upgrading skills and work on to change the behavior of the learners, only then you achieve the objectives of the performance based learning. This makes your course unique and just not providing the learners with the information.

Few points to keep in mind while the creating the performance based e-learning –

  • What are the objectives?
  • What do learners expect from the course?
  • How can the learning objectives be fulfilled?
  • Different ways through which the learning objectives and goals be achieved
  • How will you measure the success of the course?

The primary task is to create learner-centred materials. The adults of this era are well-read and are informed knowledge consumers. Using real-world, immersive scenarios will move the training up a few notches and its impact will unfold during learner performance.
